The Evolution of the Earth and Man and The Influence of the Stars
This is another cycle of lively, impromptu question and answer periods
Steiner had with the workers of the second Goetheanum. He begins with
an imaginative description of the creation of the world and of human
beings. He goes on to consider a wide range of questions about Chinese
culture, nutrition, the sense of smell, planetary influences on animals,
plants and stones, weather and its causes, and more. These talks are among
the last he was able to give before his illness put a stop to his lecturing
and travel.
The fourteen lectures presented here were given between June and
Sept. of 1924 in Dornach, Switzerland. In the Collected Edition of
Rudolf Steiner's works in German, the volume containing the German
texts is entitled, Die Schöpfung der Welt und des Menschen,
Erdenleben und Sternenwirken (Vol. 354 in the Bibliographic
Survey). They were translated into English by Gladys Hahn.
Cover design by Van James (Based on a pastel sketch by Rudolf Steiner
entitled ‘Es werde die Weite und das Leben.’)
